Please note that the fort cannot be visited. Only the crypt and the memorial are accessible from the outside.
It's the first building you'll see, standing at the very entrance to the Presqu'île. Construction began in 1747, financed by the Duke of Penthièvre. It witnessed history as it was fought over by Chouans and Republicans in 1795, and was the scene of the execution of 59 resistance fighters during the Second World War.
Today, it is a military training base, and only the outdoor areas are accessible.
