France has a network of 5 Regional Operational Monitoring and Rescue Centres (C.R.O.S.S.) which maintain an operational presence throughout the metropolitan coast.

Like its counterparts in Gris-Nez, Jobourg, Corsen and Lagarde, C.R.O.S.S. Etel is a specialised centre for Maritime Affairs, which is part of the Ministry of the Sea.

It is placed under the organic authority of the Regional Director of Maritime Affairs of Brittany. It reports to the operational authority of the Maritime Prefect of the 2nd Region in Brest for the search and rescue of persons in distress at sea. The same applies when it is involved in operations falling within the remit of the general police or the coordination of State resources at sea.
