Exhibition "Conserverie et Mémoire ouvrière de la rivière d'Etel" (Cannery and working memory of the Etel river)

Musée des thoniers - 3 rue Jean Bart
56410 Étel
100 years ago, the Penn sardin workers of Douarnenez made history. In a fine spirit of solidarity to obtain decent wages and working conditions, their strike, supported by the fishermen, benefited all the women working in the canneries set up all along the coast. Among the strikers, Joséphine Pencalet (1886-1972) was the first woman elected in Brittany in May 1925.

Echoing the Penn sardin strike and their courage, the Autrefois Étel et sa région association, the Musée des Thoniers, the Quai des Dunes association and La Rivière cinema pay tribute to all women workers.

The museum is open every afternoon (except Monday) from 2pm to 6pm.
