Synopsis: A few years after the end of the First World War, an amnesiac veteran named Gaston is claimed by several families who want to see a relative in him. Duchess Dupont-Dufort, director of the charity in charge of Gaston, begins by introducing him to a bourgeois family. Through their stories, Gaston gradually discovers who he was, Jacques Renaud: a violent, quarrelsome young son of the family. He reunites with Valentine, the woman he once loved and who married his brother. She reveals to him the existence of a small scar, unknown to all, proving his identity. But Gaston chooses to escape.
