Musée National de la Marine
The collections of the Musée National de la Marine are displayed in the exceptional setting of the Port-Louis citadel, a veritable sentinel of the Lorient roadstead. Situated on a rocky escarpment with an exceptional panorama of the Île de Groix, the Pointe de Gâvres and Larmor Plage, the Port-Louis citadel boasts over 400 years of history.
One museum, two themes
The "Sauvetage en mer" (Rescue at sea) trail tells the story of an extraordinary human adventure based on the solidarity of seafarers. Born in the middle of the 19th century, the first rescue societies brought together sailors who refused to accept the inevitability of peril at sea. This space, unique in France, is a vibrant tribute to their heroism. A second theme, "Treasures of the Oceans", invites you to take a voyage to distant seas and the maritime routes of the Far East. You'll discover ships that sank on their journey to India, brought to light by underwater archaeological excavations.
